Most major accommodation houses have alternative power points for personal appliances, otherwise a transformer kit will be required for safe operation. Time Zones The Northern Territory operates at Universal Time Coordinated plus 9 1/2 hours. It does not have daylight saving. Australia has three time zones: Eastern Standard Time (EST) - operates in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland. Central Standard Time (CST) - operates in South Australia and the Northern Territory (one half hour behind EST). Western Standard Time (WST) - operates in Western Australia (two hours behind EST). * Note - daylight saving applies in NSW, ACT, VIC, WA and SA from the end of October to the end of March and in Tasmania from the beginning of October to the end of March. Mobile Phone Coverage Whilst mobile phones work in Alice Springs, the digital mobile network is not available throughout outback Australia. The coverage extends approximately 30kms outside of Alice Springs. To call international direct dial 0011 the international access code, then the country code, then the area code, and finally the telephone number. Replace 0011 with 0015 to access Telstra's international fax service. Australian Clothing Sizes Travellers are advised they should try on clothing before buying. You'll find clothing sizes are generally - women's sizes are: 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and men's sizes are: 37, 38, 39, 41. |
