The Northern Territory was founded as a federal territory on 1 January 1911, but its first flag was not hoisted until self-government was attained on 1 July 1978.

Adelaide House Designed by John Flynn it was Alice Springs first hospital and was used as the only medical centre for the region until 1939. The air conditioning system is quite unique. Alice Springs Golf Club Alice Springs Golf Club which boasts one of the world's finest desert venues set in the foothills of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges. Alice Springs Memorial Cemetery Here you'll find many of our great pioneers like Albert Namatjira and Olive Pink. You'll find the early Afghan camelers resting facing Mecca. Anzac HillA memorial paying tribute to the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have lost their lives in war. You can also take in the stunning views of the East and Western Macs along with a 360 degrees view of Alice Springs. Central Australian Aviation MuseumLocated in the original Connellan Airways Hanger on the site of Alice Springs first landing ground. See early planes used by the Flying Doctor, a restored DC3, other historical aircraft and aviation memorabilia. Flynn Memorial ChurchA memorial to Rev John Flynn for services to the people of the Outback. Old Gaol/Pioneer Women's Hall of FameThe Old Alice Springs Gaol was opened 1938 - 1996. This heritage listed building has been reopened as the home of the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame. Old Hartley Street SchoolOpened in late 1930, it was the first government school in Alice Springs.
Olive Pink Botanic GardenThe garden features native plants of Central Australia. Take a walk up Annie Myer Hill to views of Alice and the MacDonnell Ranges.
Old Stuart Town GaolBuilt in 1908 the Gaol remained in service until 1938 and is the oldest remaining building in Alice Springs town area. |
